Where “Your” Volleyball Dollar Really Goes?

A normal CEVA Junior Girls Volleyball Season generally starts the last of November and continues through May, ending at the Emerald City Classic in Seattle or the Bayview Classic in Berkeley California. Some national bound teams will continue through June. During that time, most of our teams will have 5 to 6 hours of training during the week, attend a weekend Power League Tournament, and one other 3 day traveling tournament somewhere each month. Beside experience, the larger 3 day tournaments offer players exposure to college coaches and other teams from around the country.

Clubs offer various styles of season payment plans, but power leagues cost everyone the same fees, regional championships cost everyone the same fees, all traveling tournament fees are the same, motels are similar, air fares similar, and food costs similar. Truth is, money is not what separates clubs from each other. (Attending additional long distance tournaments at additional expense might.)

Fact is, I’ve learned from personal experience, that if you play a standard 25 point college game, it will generally last around 22 to 25 minutes. If you take all the dead time out of that same game, (time outs, shagging, lineup checks, and etc.), that same game is only about 10-12 minutes of actual playing time.

Every year I show my parents a chart demonstrating that if their daughter played in 100% of every set of every match in every tournament that actual tournament play actively only accounts for about 15-17 percent of active volleyball time in a junior season. In other words, around 85% of your club volleyball dollar goes to training time. While some players come to club to put themselves in front of college coaches, all players come to club for training and personal improvement. PVC has enjoyed success
at all levels winning national championships at 3 age groups and regional championships at all
age groups the last twenty years. PVC will take on an even more aggressive approach to “National Qualifier Tournaments with our “National” teams this upcoming season.

National Team programs are at the top of each age group. The commitment to National Teams is
primarily different due to the travel time devoted to these 3 day national qualifier style tournaments.
A more specific discussion of this topic can be found in the, “PVC Goes National” article
offered in the website. Every year our Board of Directors evaluates the quality and cost
national tournaments to make sure they provide the best bang for the dollar.

This year with a strong returning coaching staff, your training dollar is even better spent no matter what team you are on. The PVC system of play is based on sound long term techniques and tactics that have already resulted in over 70 major tournament wins and championships. PVC training has placed over 300 players in college, helped develop several All Americans, and 9 professional players. More importantly our players excel in several high school programs at the varsity level right now.

Some clubs promise big tournaments. PVC promises quality training and a strong interest in your daughter’s success and development. Your volleyball dollar goes to training, so should your decision.
Results prove training and PVC has been at the top of the Northwest for over four decades because of sound training. We invite you to tryout and hear our plan for this season. Either way, best of luck and have a successful Volleyball Season.
