About PVC

Founder / Coach

carl.jpgCarl Neuburger is the Founder of the Portland Volleyball Club (PVC). He has coached at every age level within the club for over 45 years. Formerly, Carl was the head coach at both West Linn HS (17 yrs) and Oregon City HS (6 yrs). These high school volleyball programs were consistently ranked among the top ten in the OSAA large school division while winning the State Championship in 2003 and 2007 both with West Linn. Carl's teams also captured many runner-up and third-place trophies during this time. Carl was Head Women's Division I Volleyball Coach for 10 years at the University of Portland. As a result of Carl's leadership, PVC has always been considered one of the top junior development programs in the Northwest. Carl Neuburger was honored by The Volleyball Festival with its Award for Distinguished Service to Junior Volleyball.

The Club's record and reputation speaks for itself and it is hoped that this coming season will be a continuation of that legacy. Because of the continued interest in the Club locally and the need to get more young people involved in the sport, this year's program will feature teams in four age groups -- 12 & Under, 14 & Under, 16 & Under, and 18 & Under. Selection to the Club is by tryout. Each Team within the Club typically carries 10-12 players. This will allow for increased practice intensity and more effective coaching which should further enhance each player's athletic development. The Club will not sacrifice quality for quantity in terms of player numbers -- there will only be the number of teams that the Club can guarantee the best quality coaching. Coaches at all levels have college/playing and/or successful high school/club coaching experience.
