PVC Teams & Coaches Reload for 2017/18 Season
14U Gold Championship Coach Steven Bodo returns this year as the head coach for the 16U Blue National Team. Steven’s past seven years as the head coach for 14U Red have been full of accomplishment. Three Gold division Power League Championships, two Gold Regional Championships, and one National Bid Tournament Championship. Add a Volleyball Festival National Championship and a 3rd place at Festival the year before , a Bayview Classic Championship, an 11th place National Division finish at last year’s nationals, back to back Willamette Classic Championship finishes in the 16U division with his 14’s, and 2 finals appearances at Emerald City.
Steven, a Hungarian native of Transylvania, grew up in the high performance national system of the Romanian state sponsored Club Sport School System program, playing under international rules. Steven went on to play as a setter/opposite for 3 years indoors as a professional. Steven moved with his wife Mona to Germany where he continued his career as an elite regional women’s club coach, where his teams went undefeated for 2 years and won 2 Regional Championships.
Steven, his wife, and new son Edward immigrated to Sherwood Oregon in June of 1994. (Steven presently has a second son Jason, playing in the high performance boy’s league.) That fall Steven met Jim Kirby and joined PVC as the assistant coach of 18U Black. Steven was hired as the Varsity Coach at Sherwood High School where in only 2 years he took the Lady Bowman to their most successful season up to that date, including a Conference Championship, 3 tournament wins, and the semis at the 3A State of Oregon Championships.
Now, Steven brings 26 years of experience in PVC to his new 16U challenge. Assisted this year by former all star player Hollen Combs, who helped coach the Blue National Team last year, and joined by several of his former 14U Redsters from his undefeated season last year. Always looking for new talent, you will probably see his 6’5” frame this fall in a gym near you!
As one door closes, another opens, again filled by a veteran on staff head coach. Kathy Walker will take over the 14U Red National Team spot this season. She has, also, coached at Barlow HS, Rose City Volleyball Club, JV1 at West Linn HS, and Evergreen HS in Vancouver. Red National is in good hands! Long time Head and Assistant Coach Michelle Hoover will stay as Red’s assistant coach to provide continuity into the new season.
Experienced returning Silver Team coach Kristina Crivello in her third year with PVC will move to head coach for 16U PVC White. Kristina’s excellent player background and former coaching experience at Reynolds HS, along with her strong finishes the last 2 years with PVC Silver makes her a popular choice. She will be backed up on occasion by 40 year veteran and technical advisor Jim Kirby. Former Central Catholic and University of Portland star Monica Gajda will return to PVC as an alumni assistant with Jourdan Ellis at Silver. Jourdan Ellis who coached 16U White last year will move to Silver. Jourdan will be helped on occasion by Kirby.
An exciting lineup of veteran coaches are guiding our 14’s and 16’s to a year of big expectations!
